Anthea Abell AKA Full Tilt Nanna – lives in Melbourne and is a self-taught and self-confessed crochet tragic.
Anthea founded her crochet label Full Tilt Nanna in 2015 and makes a range of contemporary crocheted toys and accessories. Nothing puts a smile on her dial more than seeing a little love wearing, or playing with, something that she has made. Handmaking items to become hand-me-downs may not be the best business model but it does fulfill a creative and socially-conscience need.
Anthea has a penchant for eco-friendly yarns and loves chopping up old shirts to repurpose them into multi-use vessels.
Inspired by her daughter, Anthea balances motherhood with being her own boss, in order to provide the best example of “you can do anything” that she can.
ANTHEA'S LUCKY DIP QUESTIONS
How important is the planning process in what you do
Planning is CRUCIAL for Full Tilt Nanna! I have a toddler, a hubby and two pugs vying for my attention so I need to balance my practise with my family life. I have two online stores, regularly do markets, teach and have an active social media profile so I’m rarely without my phone or crochet hook in hand. I maximise EVERY minute of my day and if multitasking were a sport I could compete at an international level.
Best tip for balancing work and play
Commit your attention to one or the other, you simply cannot put your brain in two places at once. I don’t think it’s fair to not be completely present when spending time with loved ones or just as importantly, not be wholely focused when you’re making your makes.
